RENJAN MATHEW VARGHESE

A passionate Environmental Scientist, Renjan has over twelve years experience in the field of Environmental Impact Assessment, Ecosystem Studies, Geographic Information System and Wildlife management.

Currently working as the Kerala state director of World Wide Fund for Nature-India, Renjan has his qualifications in Natural Resources Management from Indian Institute of Forest Management.

Starting his career as a scientist at Centre for Environment and Development, he has been instrumental in many R&D projects, consultancy services and outreach programs. Renjan honed his GIS skills by working for the projects like Survey and Inventory of Wetlands of Kerala for sustainable utilization of resources, Development of a Forest Fire Forecasting System for Southern Western Ghats using Web based GIS and Remote Sensing during his tenure at CED.

He has published several papers in international journals and holds Professional memberships of Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Indian Society of Geomatics, Bombay Natural History Society and National Cartographers Association.

He is a familiar and well-respected spatial industry presenter and commentator focusing on nature conservation and environment protection activities.

   
DR. P. K. ANIL KUMAR

Dr. P. K. Anil Kumar is a technocrat and has been involved in aspects of technology information, management, technology transfer and funding in fisheries and dairy sectors, for over twelve years.

He possesses a doctoral degree in Fish & Fisheries Science with specialization in marine aquaculture from Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai under Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Dept. of Agriculture Research and Education, Govt. of India.  

He started his career as a scientist in the ‘Technology Vision 2020’ programme and is currently working as Scientist ‘C’ at Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council, Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi and involved in technology assessment, estimation and forecasting of scientific and technical manpower, establishing the role of science and technology on economic growth and well being etc.

He had received training on ‘Leadership development’ from the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie.

He is also a member of the Marine Biological Association of India.

His areas of interest include growth modeling and forecasting, marine ecosystem monitoring, GIS and Remote Sensing etc.

Giovanni Leone, an econometrician specialized in business projects for value creation through ICT.

After graduating at Rome LUISS University in 1984 and a brief stint in university research, he started in Alitalia strategic planning department, before moving to production companies and commercial services, accumulating a composite management experience.

In year 2000, as a consultant in Telecom, he carried out e-learning and knowledge management projects for Central Government Agencies as well as major projects for MIUR and Servizio Civile in the communication field.

From 2005 he worked in private sector companies, managing projects in business process reengineering, enterprise resource planning implementation and CRM integrations.

Since 2008 he focused on business intelligence and geographic information systems. Since 2011 he’s in Aerbiz Consultant Company for marketing planning in retail, location based services, in-store and out-door technologies and mobile Apps.

   
B. G. SREEDEVI

B.G. Sreedevi is the first woman director of National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC), Trivandrum, which is one of the R&D institutes under Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment.

She is a post graduate in civil engineering from IIT, Chennai with specialization in structural engineering. She also holds a post graduation in Urban and Highway engineering from Vinayaka Missions University, Selam. She has a post graduate diploma as well in Management from All India Management Association.

She has membership in professional societies like Institution of Engineers (India), Energy Conservation Society, Indian Roads Congress and Swadesi Science Congress.

She has extensive experience in implementing GIS with Planning and Infrastructure Development.

 
   
DR. P. VIJAYAKUMARAN NAIR
HEAD GIS AND RS DIVISION (RET’D)
KERALA FOREST RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Graduation, Post Graduation and Ph D (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore) in Biological Sciences.  Work involved extensive use of computer programming, GIS and processing of satellite images.

He has a programming approach in GIS and RS, creating own routine as and when suitable tools are not readily available. Tools involve file format conversion, presentation graphics and developing teaching material. The tools he has developed have been put in public domain through a website he maintain, http://keralapages.org. This site provides map layers and poster quality maps of Kerala regions. The site also provides full text reference material on forest, geography, wetlands, local governing bodies, etc.

He has undergone training in using Erdas, QGIS and Arc/GIS. Expertise in Idrisi, Mapinfo and Global Mapper has been by way of practice.  Some of the notable works carried out are preparing maps of forest regions, river basins, natural resource estimation, three dimensional views using DEM and mapping areas using hybrid method of GPS and conventional survey, etc.

Of late, he has shifted to Open GIS. One of the activities is developing tutorials for QGIS topics, continuing development of GIS Tools is another. Provide free consultancy and resources to students and nonprofit tasks in GIS, RS and mapping.
